What's Trending with Bridal Hair and Makeup in 2026
Based on the Easy Weddings 2026 report — insights from over 4,200 Australian couples, and what they mean for your Bellus booking.
Every year, Easy Weddings surveys thousands of Australian couples to understand how they’re planning, spending and booking their wedding suppliers. The 2026 Australian Wedding Industry Report gathered insights from more than 4,200 engaged and recently married couples — and for a hair and makeup artist like me, the findings are genuinely fascinating. Here’s what the data tells us about what brides are looking for in 2026, What’s Trending with Bridal Hair and Makeup in 2026, and how I make sure every Bellus bride gets exactly that.

What Brides Want - What's Trending with Bridal Hair and Makeup — What You Need to Know
Let’s start with the headline number: 85% of couples hire a professional hair and makeup artist for their wedding day. That puts hair and makeup among the most universally booked suppliers in the country — ahead of videographers, florists, and wedding cars.
And it’s not just about showing up on the day. 85% of couples also book a hair and makeup trial before their wedding. This tells me that brides aren’t just looking for a great finished look — they want a process. They want to feel confident and prepared well before the morning of their wedding.
This is exactly why I always encourage Bellus brides to book their trial early. It’s not a luxury — it’s one of the most valuable hours in your entire wedding planning journey. You can find out more on my bridal hair and bridal makeup pages.
The Look Brides Are Going For in 2026
The survey results are clear: soft and elegant is the dominant makeup style, chosen by 64% of brides. Full glam comes in at 20%, classic statement at 11%, and modern and minimal at 5%.
For hair, updos remain the most popular choice at 43%, followed by half-up styles at 31%, wavy and down at 22%, and sleek and straight at just 4%.
What does this tell us? Brides in 2026 are leaning into timeless, polished looks that photograph beautifully and feel effortless — not over-styled. If you’re a Bellus bride wondering what direction to take your look, “soft and elegant” is a great starting point for our trial conversation. It works beautifully across all skin tones, all hair types, and every kind of venue — from Hunter Valley wineries to Port Stephens beachside ceremonies.
What Couples Value Most From Their Artist
Couples rate their hair and makeup artists 5/5 on average — the joint-highest satisfaction score of any wedding supplier category. Here’s what brides say their artists do best:
- Talented artists who create beautiful, long-lasting looks
- A friendly and calming presence that helps brides feel relaxed on the morning
- Great communication and a clear understanding of the desired style
- Punctual and efficient on the wedding day
- High-quality products and techniques that photograph beautifully
Notice that “calming presence” sits right alongside “talented artist.” The morning of your wedding is one of the most emotionally heightened moments of your life. The people in that room with you matter enormously. This is why I run Bellus the way I do.
For most weddings, it’s just me. You’re booking Amanda, and Amanda is who shows up. For larger bridal parties of five or more, I bring in a trusted, experienced stylist to work alongside me — so the morning runs smoothly without anyone feeling rushed. But I’m always there. I personally do every bride’s hair and makeup, and I set the tone for the entire morning.
What Brides Wish Was Different
The survey also captures where couples feel let down. For hair and makeup, the most common frustrations are:
- Looks not matching the brief or the bride’s expectations
- Timing delays causing the schedule to run late
- Poor communication or slow responses during planning
- Makeup or hair not lasting throughout the day
- Higher pricing than expected for trials or packages
Each of these is solvable — and most of them come back to the same thing: clear communication before the wedding day. A thorough trial, honest conversations about your vision, and a detailed timeline are the tools that prevent every one of these problems.
At Bellus, I’m known for my responsiveness. I answer enquiries personally, I’m detailed in my consultations, and I give every bride a realistic picture of what their look will involve and how long it will take. No surprises on the day.
How Brides Are Finding Their Artist
The 2026 report shows that 70% of couples use social media for inspiration and supplier discovery, with Instagram the dominant platform at 52% of wedding decision-making influence. Pinterest is growing fast at 21%, and TikTok continues to climb at 12%.
But here’s what matters most when choosing your artist: price transparency, relevant photos, and responsiveness are the top three factors couples use when deciding between suppliers. Being popular on social media ranks last.
In other words — brides don’t want the most-followed artist. They want the artist who shows their real work, is upfront about pricing, and gets back to them quickly. That’s the Bellus approach, and it’s why my diary fills 12 to 24 months in advance.
When Should You Book Your Hair & Makeup Artist?
The national data shows hair and makeup artists are typically booked 9 months before the wedding. In my experience, the best Bellus dates — Saturdays in October, November, March and April — go considerably earlier than that.
October, November, March, and April are the peak wedding months for 2026, with spring and autumn together accounting for more than two-thirds of all weddings. If your date falls in one of these months, please don’t wait. Current 2026 dates are limited. 2027 bookings are open now.
How Much Does Bridal Hair and Makeup Cost in Australia?
For couples researching budgets, the national average cost of wedding hair and makeup in 2026 is $992, up 11% year-on-year. In NSW, where most Bellus brides are located, the average is $1,159.
This reflects the true cost of professional mobile service, quality products, a skilled artist, and the time investment that goes into preparing a bride properly — including the trial. When you compare it to the 46% of the wedding budget that goes to the venue alone, professional hair and makeup represents exceptional value for one of the most photographed days of your life.
I’m fully transparent about my rates. You can view the complete Bellus pricing breakdown on my pricing page.
