Intimate Weddings by Bellus
Intimate Wedding Hair & Makeup — A Smaller Wedding Deserves Every Bit as Much Care
There’s a quiet worry that follows small weddings: will the suppliers I approach take us seriously? Will I feel like a second-tier client because we’re not a big party? I want to answer that directly: no.
At Bellus, intimate weddings are some of my favourite mornings of the year.
Fewer people means more time. More time means more attention. — and a getting-ready experience that’s genuinely calm and personal rather than rushed and logistical. Whether you’re planning a small vineyard celebration in the Hunter Valley, a coastal ceremony at Port Stephens, or a boutique city wedding in Newcastle, intimate weddings are absolutely my kind of morning.
I travel to intimate weddings across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the
Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, and the Central Coast. For bookings of
three or more people needing hair and makeup, my full service is
available. If your group is smaller than three, get in touch — if your
date has availability, I’m happy to discuss what’s possible.

What's Different
What an Intimate Wedding Morning Actually Looks Like
With a large bridal party, the morning is a production — schedules, assistants, staggered timings, a run sheet pinned to the wall. With an intimate wedding, it’s something else entirely. Slower. More personal. There’s room to actually savour getting ready.
For most intimate weddings, I work solo — just me, you, and your small group. No one’s waiting around watching the clock. No factory-line feeling. We take time to get each look exactly right, and the morning becomes a memory in itself rather than just a logistical step before the ceremony.
After 18 years of bridal hair and makeup and three consecutive Wedding Diaries Editor’s Choice Awards, I’ve worked with intimate celebrations from vineyard villas in Pokolbin to coastal cottages in Shoal Bay to heritage suites in Newcastle. And I can tell you honestly: some of my most beautiful work has happened in small, quiet rooms with just a handful of people getting ready.

How Booking Works for Small Wedding Parties
I typically require a minimum of three people booking hair and makeup services to confirm a wedding day date. This covers the bride plus two others — a common configuration for intimate weddings.
That said, I do make exceptions. If your date falls close to the calendar and it’s unlikely I’ll receive a larger booking, I’m open to discussing a group of one or two. The best way to find out is to get in touch and tell me your date and numbers — I’ll always be honest about what’s possible.
Some of the groups I regularly work with at intimate weddings:
Bride plus two — the most common intimate configuration. Three people, relaxed pacing, a genuinely lovely morning.
Bride plus small family group — the bride, mother of the bride, mother of the groom, and perhaps a bridesmaid or two. Everyone gets the attention they deserve, and I plan the timeline around every person in the room.
If you’re not sure how your group fits, tell me the numbers when you enquire and I’ll lay out exactly how I’d structure the morning.

The Looks
What Makeup Style Works for an Intimate Wedding?
There’s no single style that belongs to intimate weddings — brides planning smaller celebrations want everything from effortlessly natural to full soft glam. What tends to change is the feeling that surrounds the choice. In a smaller setting, close to your people, many brides find themselves drawn to something more personal and genuine rather than elaborate.
Natural and skin-forward looks are popular. A luminous, dewy base, softly defined features, a look that photographs as beautifully as it feels. When you’re surrounded by only the people who matter most to you, something soft and true to yourself tends to resonate.
Soft glam is just as welcome. Intimate doesn’t mean understated — plenty of brides want to feel genuinely, completely glamorous on their wedding day and a small setting is no reason not to. I love delivering a polished, defined look that makes you feel extraordinary.
Classic and timeless styles suit smaller weddings in formal or architectural settings — heritage homes, private estates, boutique venues with real character. Elegant and considered, at any scale.
Whatever direction you’re leaning, we lock it in at your trial. I’ll look at your references, your venue, your dress, your colouring — and help you arrive at something that feels completely right for your day.

Where We Work
Intimate Wedding Venues Across the Region
One of the gifts of a smaller celebration is the venue options. Intimate weddings unlock spaces that larger parties can’t use — private properties, boutique vineyard stays, coastal cottages, secluded estates. I’ve worked in all of them.
Hunter Valley — The wine country is exceptional for intimate celebrations. Vineyard cottages, private farmhouses, boutique accommodation with ceremony space right on the property. Small vineyard weddings in Pokolbin and Lovedale are some of the most beautiful I’ve been part of.
Port Stephens — Beachfront properties, resort suites, private coastal homes. The natural setting carries a lot of the atmosphere, and a soft, relaxed look belongs perfectly against that backdrop.
Newcastle — Hotel suites, boutique city venues, private residences. Newcastle has genuine character without the remoteness of wine country, and for couples who want something intimate in an urban setting, it delivers beautifully.
Central Coast — Garden settings, water-view properties, boutique venues tucked into the landscape. The Central Coast quietly has some of the best intimate wedding options in regional NSW.
FAQ
Intimate Wedding Hair & Makeup FAQs
What is the minimum group size for intimate wedding hair and makeup?
Bellus typically books wedding days for groups of three or more people requiring hair and makeup services. For smaller groups of one or two, it depends on the date and current availability — I make exceptions when the calendar allows. Get in touch with your date and numbers and I'll give you a clear answer.
Is intimate wedding hair and makeup more expensive than a full bridal party?
No. All services are priced per person regardless of group size. There is no premium applied to smaller bookings and no minimum spend requirement. The per-person pricing is the same for a group of three as it is for a group of ten. See the full hair & makeup pricing page for current rates.
Do I still need a hair and makeup trial for an intimate wedding?
Yes — I strongly recommend it for the bride regardless of party size. The trial isn't about the complexity of the look or how many people are involved. It's about making sure your exact look is confirmed before the wedding morning, so the day itself is completely calm. A trial also makes the wedding morning noticeably more relaxed, which matters even more for an intimate celebration where every moment is a memory.
Can you do hair and makeup at a private property or remote venue?
Yes. I regularly work at private properties, farm venues, and boutique accommodation across the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, Newcastle and the Central Coast. Travel fees may apply depending on the location — I'll confirm everything when you enquire.
Can you include mothers of the bride and groom in an intimate wedding morning?
Absolutely. Mothers are a natural and welcome part of any intimate wedding morning. I plan the timeline to include everyone in the room, and for an intimate celebration where family plays a central role, having both mothers involved makes the morning feel complete. See the dedicated pages for how I approach mother of the bride hair and makeup and mother of the groom hair and makeup specifically.
What's the difference between an intimate wedding and an elopement?
A: For hair and makeup purposes, the main difference is group size and logistics. An elopement is typically just the couple — sometimes with two witnesses — while an intimate wedding usually involves a small group of family or close friends. I work with both. For elopements, see the dedicated page.
