Elopement Hair and Makeup — Look Extraordinary on Your Most Personal Day

Somewhere between deciding to elope and actually planning it, most couples hit the same quiet frustration: every supplier they approach seems designed for big weddings. Packages built for bridal parties. Pricing structures that assume a room full of people. Questions about bridesmaid numbers and group timelines. None of it fits.

I want you to know that eloping doesn’t disqualify you from exceptional hair and makeup. Your day is just as significant — more so, in many ways. You’ve made a considered, intentional choice to celebrate privately, and that deserves a professional who takes it just as seriously as a three-hundred-person ballroom wedding.

I work with eloping couples across the Hunter Valley, Newcastle, Port Stephens and the Central Coast. Elopement bookings are considered on availability — because my schedule is typically built around larger parties, I’d encourage you to enquire early and tell me your date so I can let you know honestly whether I can make it work.

Why Bellus for an Elopement

Why Choose a Professional Artist for Your Elopement?

You’re going to be photographed more than you think. Even the most private elopements have a photographer. There are ceremony shots, the first look, the small celebratory moments afterward. And in the years to come, those photographs are all you’ll have of that morning.

With 18 years of bridal hair and makeup experience — including hundreds of ceremonies across Hunter Valley vineyard estates, Port Stephens coastal properties, and Newcastle boutique venues — I know what looks extraordinary in photographs and what photographs differently than you expect. I know what holds in summer humidity at an open-air vineyard ceremony. I know what a satin finish does in direct sunlight. I know how to build a look that’s designed for the full day, not just the first twenty minutes.

Three consecutive Wedding Diaries Editor’s Choice Awards. Ranked Top 10 for four regional locations. These aren’t credentials I lead with to impress — they’re reasons you can feel confident that the person arriving at your door knows exactly what she’s doing.

How It Works

How an Elopement Hair and Makeup Booking Works

Even for elopements, I work with a minimum of three people booking hair and makeup services. This might be the bride plus two family members, the bride and both mothers, or a small group of whoever is closest to you on the morning. An elopement doesn’t have to mean getting ready alone — it just means keeping the day intimate and entirely yours.

If your group is smaller than three, get in touch anyway and tell me your date. If the calendar has space and a larger booking is unlikely for that date, I’m occasionally able to make exceptions. I’ll always be straight with you about what’s possible.

For groups of three or more, an elopement morning with Bellus is unhurried and personal in a way that larger wedding parties rarely are. There’s no run sheet the length of your arm. No queue. No pressure to move on before the work is exactly right.

I arrive at your venue — a vineyard villa, a hotel suite, a coastal cottage — and the morning belongs to your group entirely. I work through each look with real focus, adjusting and refining until every person in the room feels genuinely beautiful and completely ready.

For peak season dates from October through April, enquiring early gives you the best chance of securing your date. Outside peak season, more flexibility is usually possible — but it’s always worth reaching out regardless, and I’ll come back to you honestly.

The Trial

Elopement Hair and Makeup Trial

I recommend a trial for every bride, including those eloping. Your
elopement morning should feel completely certain — you should already know what your look will be, how it will hold, and exactly how you’ll feel when you see it.

That certainty is what the trial gives you. Trials are held at my Cameron Park studio on Tuesdays and Fridays. Trial cost is $300 hair and makeup. The trial is separate from the wedding day booking and held on a different occasion.

The Looks

What Look Is Right for an Elopement?

There’s no single aesthetic that belongs to eloping. The most important thing is that your look reflects you — and that it belongs to the specific place and moment you’ve chosen.

Natural and effortless — skin-forward, luminous, genuinely beautiful. For elopements in natural settings — vineyards, beaches, bushland, private gardens — something soft and organic tends to feel exactly right. It moves with you rather than sitting on top of you. → Explore natural bridal makeup

Soft glam — defined, polished, elevated. For couples who want to feel completely extraordinary on the day, a soft glam look delivers. It photographs beautifully in almost any setting. Romantic and undone — loose, organic, textured hair. Soft curls or waves rather than a formal upstyle. This is the look that belongs at a Hunter Valley villa or a secluded beach — something that looks like you just arrived at the most beautiful moment of your life. → Bridal hair styles

Dramatic and considered — for couples eloping in formal or architectural settings. A classic upstyle, a sculpted makeup look, something that photographs as an heirloom image. Small doesn’t mean understated unless you want it to.

Where We Work

Where I Work With Eloping Couples

The best elopement venues are the ones that feel entirely your own — and across the four regions I service, there are extraordinary options.

Hunter Valley — Private vineyard estates, cottage accommodation, secluded property with ceremony space built into the landscape. Pokolbin and Lovedale are exceptional for elopements. The setting does so much of the work, and a soft, considered look belongs perfectly against those vines. → Hunter Valley Weddings

Port Stephens — Coastal headlands, private beach access, resort suites with sea views. Shoal Bay, Fingal Bay, and Anna Bay have settings that feel like the world has emptied out just for you. → Port Stephens Weddings

Newcastle — Boutique heritage venues, rooftop settings, character- filled hotel suites. Newcastle is increasingly popular for city elopements, and with good reason — it has a genuinely beautiful built environment and real personality. → Newcastle Weddings

Central Coast — Coastal garden venues, private escapes overlooking the water, secluded properties with old-growth gardens. The Central Coast has more extraordinary elopement settings than most people realise. → Central Coast Weddings

FAQ

Elopement Hair and Makeup FAQs

Can I book Bellus for just the two of us eloping?

My minimum for elopement hair and makeup is three people — typically the bride plus two others, whether that's both mothers, a sister, a best friend, or a small combination of whoever is closest to you. A booking for one or two people on their own isn't something I'm generally able to take on, as it doesn't make the travel and day viable. If you're set on just the two of you, the most useful thing to do is get in touch with your date. On rare occasions where the calendar is quiet and a larger booking is unlikely, I may be able to make it work — but I'd rather be upfront about that now than have you plan around an assumption. I'll always come back to you with an honest answer.

How is elopement hair and makeup priced?

All services are priced per person, the same as any wedding booking. There's no elopement surcharge and no minimum spend requirement beyond the booking deposit. Pricing details are on the pricing page.

Do I need a hair and makeup trial before eloping?

Yes — and I'd strongly encourage it. Eloping often means the morning is just the two of you, which makes a confident, settled look even more important. A trial ensures you know exactly what you're walking into and removes any uncertainty from an already emotional morning. It's one appointment that pays for itself entirely on the day.

Can you travel to remote or private elopement locations?

Yes. Private properties, secluded venues, farm settings, and boutique coastal accommodation are all well within my regular working range. Travel fees may apply depending on the specific location — confirmed at enquiry. If you're planning something particularly remote, mention it when you get in touch and I'll let you know.

What if I'm eloping on short notice?

Get in touch as soon as you've decided on the date. I'll check availability immediately and come back to you honestly. Last-minute elopement bookings do happen — particularly outside peak season — and I'd rather you ask than assume I'm unavailable.

What's the difference between an elopement and an intimate wedding booking with Bellus?

For hair and makeup purposes, it's primarily about group size and logistics. Elopements typically involve the couple and perhaps one or two others. Intimate weddings involve a small group — usually three to eight people — and follow a slightly more structured morning schedule. Both are welcome. See the intimate weddings page for more on small group bookings. Intimate Wedding Hair & Makeup
