Years of Experience

The getting-ready morning is one of the most photographed parts of any wedding day — and it should feel as good as it looks. I’ve coordinated bridal party mornings for groups of all sizes across the Hunter Valley, Newcastle, Port Stephens and the Central Coast. Whether it’s just you and your sister or a full party of twelve, I plan the morning in detail so that everyone is finished on time, looking cohesive, and actually enjoying themselves.

How I Work With Different Party Sizes

Every group is different — different sizes, different timelines, different venues. Here’s how I structure things depending on how many people need to be ready:

Small Party — up to 4 people

I work solo for smaller parties. We’ll have a relaxed morning with plenty of time for each person, and I can usually accommodate a mix of hair and makeup for everyone without rushing. Timing is straightforward and the morning stays calm.

Medium Party — 5 to 10 people

For mid-size groups I bring in one trusted assistant. I work with the same small team of experienced artists I’ve collaborated with for years — so the quality is consistent across every person in the room. I coordinate the morning schedule and oversee everything.

Large Party — 11 to 14 people

Larger groups need two assistants working alongside me. I plan the full morning timeline meticulously — staggered start times, a clear run sheet, every person’s look confirmed in advance. Large mornings can feel chaotic with the wrong team. With the right planning they feel easy.

The Looks

Cohesive Without Being Identical

One of the things I’m asked about most often is how to make the bridal party look like they belong together without everyone looking the same. It’s a legitimate concern — and it’s exactly what the group trial and consultation is for.

My approach is to work with each person’s individual colouring, features and preferences within an agreed overall direction. If the bride is wearing a bold lip, her bridesmaids might wear a softer version of the same tone. If the overall look is natural and dewy, we keep that thread running through everyone — adjusted for each person.

The result is a group that looks considered and cohesive in photos without anyone feeling like they’ve been put in a uniform.

Upstyles

Upstyles are a popular choice for bridesmaids — and understandably so. They keep hair polished and off the face all day, work across every hair length, and look consistently beautiful in group photos. Whether it’s a soft chignon, a textured updo, or something with a little braid detail woven in, an upstyle suits every dress neckline and holds exceptionally well through a long reception.

Half-Up / Half-Down

A half-up style offers something in between — the elegance of styled hair with the softness of length still on show. It’s a beautiful choice for bridesmaids who love the feel of their hair down but want something a little more considered and refined for the day. I can work soft face-framing pieces into this style to flatter different face shapes across the group.

Bohemian Styles

Relaxed, romantic, and effortlessly beautiful. Boho-inspired hair works especially well for outdoor settings — garden ceremonies, vineyard receptions, and coastal celebrations. Loose texture, natural movement, and a slightly undone quality are what define this look. It photographs beautifully in golden-hour light and suits bridesmaids with longer hair particularly well.

Bridal Braids

Braiding adds something special — a handcrafted quality that no other style quite replicates. Whether woven into an upstyle as a detail, used as a half-up element, or worn as a standalone style, braids photograph beautifully and add real visual interest to a bridal party. They can be as subtle or as intricate as the look calls for.

Bridal Waves

Worn down and styled with soft, flowing waves, this look is romantic and timeless. It works best for bridesmaids with medium to long hair in good condition, and the result — when done well — is genuinely striking. I use the right preparation and holding products to ensure the style lasts the full day without needing a refresh.

Hair Extensions

If any of your bridesmaids are working with finer or shorter hair, extensions can add the length and volume needed to achieve the style you have in mind. It’s worth raising this in advance so I can plan the timing and preparation accordingly.

Natural & Boho

For bridesmaids who prefer a lighter touch — flawless skin, softly defined brows, a warm neutral eye, and a your-lips-but-better finish. This boho look is all about enhancing rather than transforming, and it works beautifully across a diverse group of skin tones and ages. If your party includes flower girls, mums, or guests with varying comfort levels around makeup, a natural finish translates elegantly across everyone.

Modern Luminous Glow

Radiant, lit-from-within skin with a dewy finish and a hint of carefully placed shimmer. This look is less about a defined colour story and more about a quality of light — skin that looks alive in photos, with the high points of the face brought forward and a freshness that reads beautifully whether you’re standing in morning sunlight or under reception lighting. It suits bridesmaids who love a contemporary, editorial feel and want to look genuinely luminous rather than heavily made up. Paired with good skin prep, this is one of the most striking looks a whole party can wear together.

The Morning

Planning Your Morning Timeline

A well-planned timeline is the difference between a relaxed morning and a stressful one. Here’s how I approach it:

  • I build the run sheet once I know the full party size, the ceremony time, and the venue location. I work backwards from when the bride needs to be ready.
  • The bride is always last in the chair — her hair and makeup are freshest for the ceremony and photographs.
  • Bridesmaids and other party members are scheduled in order of availability and urgency — flower girls and mothers of the bride/groom are factored in too.
  • I share the full timeline with you before the wedding day so everyone knows their slot. No surprises on the morning.
  • I build buffer time into every schedule. Things run late. The buffer absorbs it without cascading through the whole morning.

The Brief

What to Include When You Enquire

The more I know upfront, the better I can plan. When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • Your wedding date and ceremony time
  • Your venue and approximate location
  • Total number of people needing hair and/or makeup — including flower girls, mothers of the bride and groom, and anyone else who wants to be included
  • Whether each person needs hair only, makeup only, or both
  • Any known sensitivities or allergies in the group
  • Your overall look direction — natural, classic, glamour, or somewhere in between

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you accommodate a large bridal party for bridal hair and makeup?

Yes — I regularly work with parties of ten or more. For larger groups I bring in one or two trusted assistants depending on numbers. I coordinate the full morning and oversee all the work, so quality stays consistent across the whole group.

Do all the bridesmaids need to have the same hair and makeup look?

Not at all. I work with each person individually within an agreed overall direction. The goal is cohesion, not uniformity — everyone should look like themselves, just beautifully finished and part of the same visual story.

Do bridesmaids need individual trials?

It’s not always necessary. The bride always needs a trial. For bridesmaids, I recommend at minimum a group consultation where we confirm the direction, discuss any concerns, and note anything specific about each person’s hair or skin. Full trials for every bridesmaid are available if the bride wants that level of certainty.

How much time should we allow on the morning?

It depends entirely on party size and whether people need hair, makeup or both. Once I know the full group details I’ll give you a precise timeline. As a rough guide, allow 45–60 minutes per person for makeup alone, and 45–60 minutes for hair — more for complex styles.

Do you travel to the venue for group bookings?

Yes — I always come to you. For group bookings it’s especially important that everyone gets ready in the same location so I can manage the schedule efficiently. I travel to venues, hotels, vineyard villas and private residences across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter Valley, Port Stephens and the Central Coast.

How far ahead should I book for a group?

For group bookings I’d recommend enquiring as early as possible — ideally 12–18 months ahead for peak season dates. Group bookings involve coordinating my assistants’ availability alongside mine, so lead time matters more than for solo bookings.
